BMT Group subsidiary, BMT Isis, in partnership with sister company, BMT Defence Services, has announced that they are supporting the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) in enhancing the Maritime Legislation Database (MLD) for the Defence Maritime Regulator. This database, part of the Naval Authority System, is extensively used by ship operators to understand the applicable legislation with which they must comply. In addition to providing improved functionality, BMT is adding all UK, EU and International ‘safety’ legislation, (previously only environmental legislation was included) making it more useful for the management of the MOD Shipping safety and environmental compliance. These improvements will allow those who are legally responsible for platforms, equipment and operations (duty holders) to fully understand the specific international legislation with which to comply. For example, the new functionality allows a duty holder to integrate the compliance status into an industry standard (POSMS/POEMS compliant) template. Using a ‘live’ database and routinely updating the status removes the costly requirement of re-assessing legislative compliance using a competent contractor. Darren Matthews, Senior Safety Consultant at BMT Isis comments: “The MLD provides all MOD staff involved in the procurement or support of MOD Shipping with a consistent approach by centrally capturing and managing the generic legislative requirements. BMT has a strong track record in the development and implementation of Safety and Environmental management systems, enabling the MOD to manage and share vital information. New and enhanced functionalities of the MLD will soon include a much richer and far more flexible search and information export facility.” Related Links |
