Since 1990, BMT Fleet Technology has designed, fabricated and installed about 75 booms, totaling 15 km in length. Our investment in research and development continues to grow. BMT conducts on-going research into boom wear and failure in order to perfect the design and make booms last longer in the harshest of conditions. Typically, no maintenance is required for the first five years.

Historic weather data is used to predict wind, ice, current and debris loads. Every single component of the boom is engineered to resist all these loads.

Ice booms help to form a stable ice cover upstream of hydro dams, reducing frazil ice pileup on the intakes saving the dam owners time and money by minimizing blockage. Ice booms can also be used for a variety of other applications including keeping shipping channels open and mitigating spring flooding.
Debris Boom		Debris Booms Debris buildup can cause costly power generation losses due to blockage of the intakes. Debris booms form a barrier to retain this debris, resulting in improved power generation performance.
Security Boom		Security Booms Security booms create a highly visible barrier to warn boaters of dangerous waters, and to prevent access to restricted areas. They can be designed for year-round deployment even when interaction with ice and other harsh environmental conditions are present.
